Helping Hearts for Britta

A huge THANKS to those who have already donated!! You guys are awesome! I am keeping this open for a bit longer. Please feel welcome to offer all types of support. Thank you!

During the month of February and our exciting Blind Speed Dating Event, I'd love to point some attention to a good cause. Steph is a fellow writer who has been going through some personal hard times with her new baby, Britta, who has TAPVR (a rare heart defect). When I came across this website I was in tears and wanted to help out in any way.

I think it helps put some perspective on things. Like how precious life and all of our blessings are. So we didn't get a request from that last emailed query. So we didn't get an upgrade from dream agent. Big deal. Life is hard, but there are certainly some moments that really knock us to our lowest.

In an effort to remember these things and support a fellow writer (who probably wishes a request or a contest was her biggest worry right now), I'm adding a donate button in the sidebar of this blog. Go check out the website, follow it if you'd like, and hit that donate button in my sidebar if you choose (any amount of at least $1.00). *Of course, this has no affect on the contest this month.*

All donations will be totaled and given to 'Helping Hearts for Britta' at the end of February. (Please let me know if you have problems with the donate button. I've never done this before.)

Thank you! All donations appreciated!

  2. Shared on Twitter and Facebook.

We don't have a lot of money to spare at the moment, but I'll spread the word as far as I can. My heart goes out to their whole family. That's a hard thing to go through.

  7. This is really sweet of you. Hopefully I will be able to donate later in the month. My friend's child died in January and I've pretty much donated all my disposable income to them lately, but I could really relate to this post. Tragedy certainly puts things in perspective.

  8. My younger sister passed away from a heart defect 25 years ago so this really hits home to me. I donated and wish the family the best. They know so much more in this area than they did back then, so I have nothing but high hopes!

  9. Thanks for doing this!! So kind of you. As a fellow writer, congenital heart survivor and someone who works for the American Heart Association, thank you. Word-of-mouth can be a powerful thing! I'll share the post ;o)

  12. Her story is so moving. I gave a donation & will keep Britta and her family in our prayers. My friend/neighbor's son was born with a congenital heart defect & started Heart Heroes - a non-profit that sends custom designed super-hero capes to CHD kids, recognizes these kids for their bravery, & raises CHD awareness. This is close to my heart.

  13. Ok, I hadn't commented yet. But I, too, am a CHD survivor with two children with CHD's. I am a speaker for the American Heart Association West Coast. So I had to reply (hello Erica). I won't post my blog here because this post is about Britta. But I will say...having two children with major heart defects...miracles happen. And so you all know, financially, it wipes you out. So this - these donations - help tremendously. Trust me, they help. On behalf of those with heart babies, we thank you for your support of Miss Britta
