Bouncer Interview with Julie Murphy!

And now here's Bouncer, Julie Murphy! I met Julie last year during a contest. She's helped me on the blog before, and I interviewed her last November during NaNo. Basically, I think she's awesome! :) She's repped by Molly Jaffa, and I cannot wait to read her work!

Hi, Julie! Please share a little about yourself:

I live in North Texas with my husband who loves me, my dog who adores me, and my two cats who tolerate me. When I'm not writing or trying to catch stray cats, I work at an academic library. My favorite novels have a little bit of grit and an unlikeable character or two.

Now tell us a little about your book(s) or what you like to write:

My debut, SIDE EFFECTS MAY VARY, is due out on 2014 from HarperCollins/ Balzer + Bray. SEMV is a contemporary YA about sixteen-year-old former ballerina, Alice, who learns she is terminally ill. She makes a list of things to do and people to ruin––all her scores are settled, until she goes into remission.

What MUST we read? And what's in your TBR pile?

I've got a whole list of must-reads on my website, but most recently I would have to say FORBIDDEN by Tabitha Suzuma and ASK THE PASSENGERS by A.S. King. My TBR is extensive, but the short list includes: THE AGE OF MIRACLES by Karen Thompson Walker, JUST ONE DAY by Gayle Forman, WARM BODIES by Isaac Marion, THE LOST GIRL by Sangu Mandanna, ALL YOU NEVER WANTED by Adele Griffin, WINGER by Andrew Smith, and ELEANOR AND PARK by Rainbow Rowell.

What are those crumbs around your computer? And what is that music I hear?

Half a bag a marshmallows--the top of my revision food pyramid. And I am currently tuning into The Polyphonic Spree and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's.

Is it all about the pants or all about the outline?

Reformed pantser, searching for my outlining salvation.

Any words of wisdom for our brave contest entrants?

Once you've sent in your contest entries, STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER. Relax. Have fun. Meet new people. You are not allowed to stress.

Now give up your guilty pleasure!

Easy. (But unfortunately for me there's more than one.) SKINS--UK version. Nail polish, lipstick, headbands, Bellini, ASOS, and Trader Joe's!

Thank you, Julie!!

  2. I got sucked into the UK Skins a few years back. I think they're all on Netflix instant now, but I was trying to track down repeat episodes on BBC America, so I watched it all out of order. Also a fan of ASOS and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I can't wait to read your book someday.
